Bayonne Bridge

Bayonne Bridge

The Bayonne Bridge connects New Jersey with Staten Island and was once the largest steel arch bridge in the world upon its completion in 1931. The arch is a massive 266 feet high and a total length of 5,780 feet long. Today the bridge carries approximately 20,000 motor vehicles per day. Starting in 2013 the bridge began a large overhaul project that will eventually raise the bridge’s clearance from 151 feet to 215 feet to allow for larger ships to pass underneath.

Portland Bolt was called on to provide domestic melted and manufactured 2” diameter galvanized A449 anchor rods for the renovation.  Some of these anchor rods were assembled together with a special manufactured A563DH coupling nut with set screws to ensure the bolts will not come loose due to vibration. With our in-house galvanizing line, we were easily able to meet the delivery date, complete with full certification documents, keeping the contractor and project on schedule.
