Kean Highlands Tree Canopy Walk

Kean Highlands Tree Canopy Walk

Kean Highlands is the newest campus of Kean University.  It sits on 40 acres of protected land which will serve its students as an outdoor laboratory and experiential learning environment.  To promote this hands-on learning style, the university decided to build an experience unlike any other with a tree-canopy walk.  This walkway sits atop Mt. Paul and wanders through the woods at tree-top level for approximately 1,000 feet.  There are areas of the walkway that extend 50 feet above the forest floor.  The walkway connected the Highlands main building to a 3-story treehouse which provides bleacher style seating for classes at the university.  The first set of students will step foot on the new campus in Fall, 2019.

This project required many large tie rod assemblies to span between the walkway connections and help maintain the stability of the structure.  The project also required long custom manufactured structural bolts which Portland Bolt specializes in manufacturing.  Our 137,0000 square foot manufacturing facility is perfectly designed to manufacture custom headed fasteners.  Ordering tie rod assemblies can be tricky, but here at Portland Bolt, we walk you through the step-by-step process to make it as easy as possible.  If you have a project that requires tie rod assemblies and custom headed bolts, give Portland Bolt a call.  Our estimators have a tremendous amount of experience and we’re ready to help you on your next project!
