The Saint Lawrence Seaway is an expansive system of canals, locks, and channels located in the Great Lakes region between Canada and the United States. This Seaway allows for vessels to travel from the Atlantic Ocean into the Great Lakes System. According to the Saint Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation, the seaway sees about half its cargo from Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, and the other half from Canada and the USA. This cargo totals 40 to 50 million tons annually.
In January of 2015 Portland Bolt supplied a large quantity of 1-1/4” diameter hot-dip galvanized A563DH coupling nuts for a job in the Seaway. These high strength coupling nuts are not readily available in the marketplace, so Portland Bolt is a great supplier to call. The typical length for 1-1/4” diameter coupling nuts is 3-3/4” long, which Portland Bolt often keeps in stock in the galvanized finish. Portland Bolt was able to provide the stock size and then an additional custom 3” length to complete the work.
