The University of California San Diego campus is located in the heart of La Jolla with Interstate 5 running through the center of campus. In 2019, the Gilman Bridge was completed, which gave cars, buses, bikes, and pedestrians a better way to travel across campus. The 100% Buy America requirement on this project made Portland Bolt the perfect company for the bolts on this job.
The bolts that Portland Bolt provided were a part of the new railing system on the bridge. These stainless steel bolts ranged from 1-1/2” to 6” long and were hex bolts and carriage bolts. Portland Bolt can start making headed bolts at about 2-1/2” long so we worked with a local machine shop to thread the bolts that were shorter than that. After we headed these bolts we sent them out to be solution annealed to prevent them from rusting. If you ever have a domestic stainless steel bolt project give Portland Bolt a call and we can help you out.
