A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, Portland Bolt was called upon by The Resistance for a secret mission on the planet Batuu. The mission was to help create a new addition at the happiest place on earth. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is set to open at Disneyland Park in the summer of 2019. A fully immersive experience into the Star Wars franchise, Galaxy’s Edge aims to reach the child in all of us with new attractions and adventures. On 14 acres of prime Disneyland real estate, the largest settlement on the planet Batuu, Black Spire Outpost, will have two new attractions including Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. Because this outpost is an infamous stop for smugglers, traders, and adventurers alike, visitors will be able to interact with some of the galaxy’s most notorious characters. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be the most detailed and immersive land ever created in the history of Disney Parks.
Portland Bolt has made anchor bolts and construction fasteners for Disneyland projects in the past, including Grizzly River Run in Disney’s California Adventure. With 106 years of experience and our ability to make custom anchor bolts on a quick time frame, Portland Bolt was the easy choice for this project. The anchor rods varied in diameters from 5/8” through 3” and each anchor bolt required custom square plates which were embedded into the concrete for pullout resistance. The job required almost 100,000 lbs. of materials. Portland Bolt inventories 1.3 million lbs. of steel round bar available for immediate manufacturing and with our 137,0000 square foot manufacturing facility, this made it easy to process the materials quickly and on time for the Disneyland job site. The materials all needed to be hot-dip galvanized which also fits Portland Bolt’s abilities perfectly with our very own in-house hot-dip galvanizing line. This galvanizing line is specifically designed for threaded fasteners and gives us the ability to produce the highest quality of galvanized product in the marketplace.
The project required 37 separate releases with exact on-time delivery dates that were critical for the construction schedule. Because the site at Disneyland was top secret, Portland Bolt was required to contract with special freight trucks to ensure clearance for delivery at the job site. Since the job site was so large, the contractor on site requested to have each anchor bolt size assembly packaged separately with its corresponding nuts, washers and templates on individual pallets with special mark numbers. This custom packaging allowed the contractors to receive the pallets on site and immediately move them to the proper locations for quick and easy installation.
